That's only true since my last patch in this area, which completely
broke srate, and thus needs to be fixed(just look at the name the
corresponding variable has...).
It definitely wasn't the case a few months before, which caused quite
some annoyances.
Doing this differently means giving both up the possibility to directly
influence the number of output channels (and the decoders will not
always output the number of channels you request) and also making
-channels behave differently from srate.
