I compiled it with the division by 40 removed, and that was when I heard
the distortion. Pretty much any gain other than all zeros sounds horrible.
Long time back I tried to control volume with af_volume, and that lead to
similar results. That's why I was wondering if there may be a general issue
with audio filters. I imagine -af equalizer,volume=10 will also be similar,
but I need to try.
