yes, the pitch is distorted, everything is low pitched and needs speeding up.

I don't think theres a problem with mplayer itself just the 'broken' video file.

thanks, I tried that and the new encoded video played correctly. I
just wanted a quick way of changing the audio speed without reencoding
it.
