I have a few files which exhibit the type of symptoms described (slow,
low-pitched MP3 audio), although the audio in question is 32000 Hz. The
problem currently manifests itself only with afm=ffmpeg; if I use mp3lib
or libmad for audio decoding, the audio is played back properly.

If memory serves, when I reported this at the time it was dismissed as a
known problem with FFmpeg's MP3 decoder, and never followed up on.
