ok to commit, at least until we fix the broken -pes detection (as we 
discussed
yesterday night on irc).

BTW, I'm seriously planning to fix that horrible detection code:
1) split the -ps and -pes part from the *-es
2) simplify the state management that is far too complicated ( ->synced 
and others)
