I agree with that. Plenty of scripts and automated tools around
can deal with the existing options alread, it isn't that diffcult.

I'm strongly against removing old options, and even against renaming
them. Different encoders require differents options, and even options
that looks the same may not have the same results, or not make the
same tradeoffs. XviD and lavc aren't the same, there's no point in
making people believe so by using the same option names.
