Why would you even THINK of making mencoder idiot friendly!? That's SO
not its aim. If you (not you personally, neither rcooly, but Joe User in
general) want easy-to-use encoding software use one of the many
frontends. Because turning mencoder into something newbies could use
would require just that - a frontend that does a lot of stuff on its
own.

mencoder definitely needs a LOT of work, but certainly not in its
usability.
