I haven't yet found a way to consistently triger it.  It seems to be a
case where something like once every 2-3 dozen times an instance
of mplayer is started, it doesn't quit properly.  When I trace it down,
I'll report it.

No.  At least not that I'm aware of.  There is no "-info" or "-status"
option.  Running -disable/-enable multiple times always returns a 0,
and doesn't output any error message when it's already enabled/disabled.
