Api4 is the only api used in XviD 1.x . As MPlayer documentation states we support XviD 1.x
so we support it. The API4 documentation could be found in XviD source and on xvid web site.

Soon I will commit configure change that show clearly what version and what api XviD is compiled with.

The API itself is not faster, as it doesn't have some fundamental change. The codec may be faster,
if you use the same set of options. After all XviD developers make everything possible to have
high quality and fast encoding.

This is not exactly developer question as you can get the right answer and from most of our users.
This channel tolerate people that have tried to find the answer by themselfs before asking.
