It is a good idea, but there only seem to be a couple of interested
people and they are still writing in the "-srate" thread.
I am interested in only high quality implementations. Michael
Niedermayer appears to have added a decent quality resampler to lavc and
this is available in mplayer cvs right now.
However, he does seem to have kept it quite quiet? (for such a
presumably useful feature?) I am perhaps missing another announcement,
or even some man page entry, but certainly it's usage is documented in
the "-srate" thread. I did find a bug in the implementation, but I
haven't heard any notes on whether it has been fixed yet?
I personally don't care what implementation we use in mplayer, and
started my question because I was happy to try to add some
implementation, but I took quite a bashing for my pains. It doesn't
make me inclined to try to persue the matter much further to improve the
default state of affairs for the rest of the mplayer users. (I feel
"chased off" to be quite honest).
Good luck with any improvements you feel inclined to make. I should
turn your attention to the lavc/libavcodec.file called resampler2.c if
you really want to work on this (oh and read the rest of the previous
thread)
All the best
