I can fully understand that. If you dislike that enough to do some 
additional work (and don't mind overkill), you could include it somehow 
like libavformat:
check if a bio2jack dir exists and if yes doing make in it and adding 
-L../bio2jack to compiler options
or
simple adding -L. let the user throw the .a file into the libao2 dir...

Those are all untested theories of course, something always doesn't work 
as expected when programming ;-)
