I think his email would've perhaps been better addressed to mplayer-users
instead of dev-eng...

-r2 is probably the gentoo specific version number part.

That still leaves is with possible bugs in the gentoo build system which
users might stumble on. There were alot of gentoo users recently who
were having problems, and in almost every case, downloading tarball
and compiling that fixed the issues, including the gmplayer-is-blue
problems, but also the missing MMX and SSE, which Chris has fixed
now, I believe. I don't know what happened to mplayer-is-blue problem.

I'm not a gentoo user, but I have a slight hunch based on #mplayer traffic
that there are a few issues still :o)
