It would be a good idea to add at the top of the alsa source code, 
before the include asoundlib.h statements: -

#define ALSA_PCM_NEW_HW_PARAMS_API
#define ALSA_PCM_NEW_SW_PARAMS_API

That will let the new api source code work from alsa version 0.9.0rc4 
and up, including 1.x.x
