This all seems crazy to me. Why not either a) NEVER escape URLs, thus
requiring the user to escape them properly, or b) ALWAYS escape URLs,
thus requiring the user to provide unescaped URLs. Maybe even c) have a
flag to toggle the behavior. (-escapeurl / -noescapeurl or whatever) For
internal handling of URLs, if escaping is only performed on the user's
input, then the code everywhere will be passing correctly escaped URLs
around, and thus no escaping would need to be used anywhere else.

Am I missing something?
