Any news about upgrading libmpeg2?
Some patches have been available for two months
("libmpeg2-0.4.0 update" from Jindrich Makovicka, 2004/02/18)

The main improvement is 4:2:2 MPEG support, which is sometimes used
for professional DVB broadcasting and it's unwatchable on Linux
at the moment.
