Actually each has its advantages:

vo_fbdev works in g1 already and is fast
vo_fbdev2 is short readable code
vo2_fbdev does page flipping (no tearing!)

and disadvantages:

vo_fbdev is horribly nasty code
vo_fbdev2 is slower than Gabu trying to name every yaoi he's watched!
vo2_fbdev demands having the fb to itself, so you can't run it over
top of something else you're working on (because of page flipping)

IMO vo2_fbdev should be improved to optionally support running on top
of your fb console, and then backported to g1.
