Maybe. But autoconf is even more worse solution for the problem.
I don't mind that MPlayer's custom configure script IS perferc solution
but autoconf is much more like a piece of shit ...
No wonder that there're projects to create some universal configuration
tools similar to autoconf and its friends but with taking care to avoid
all of the stupid problems of autoconf package.
