As far as I know they are only needed for ELF binaries and when using 
the GNU ld...darwin uses neither, and i have had no problems w/o it.

On a side note, the improved timer code by danchr works, but still 
kills the GTK guil. I'm not sure why the mach_wait_until function 
waits...
