The problem is that you aren't in the doxmaint group:

But this is silly IMHO, some dirs belong to doxmaint, some to
cvsusers.  This should be uniform.  We discussed this some time ago,
the solution was to let everybody edit DOCS/ and I still stand by that
decision.  Giving that dir to doxmaint only adds one more barrier to
docs contributions.  I'd rather see more people contribute to the
documentation.

  chgrp -R cvsusers /var/cvsroot/mplayer/main/DOCS/
