I just checked the archives; what I saw was that automake and libtool
are not welcome because the files they produce are too large, but
autoconf would be ok if someone volunteers to do the work.  Is that
still the case?

(Well, I also saw some statements that autoconf itself is bad, but no
reasons were given.)
