Can you name a reason why?  I'm strictly against that unless you can
present some compelling reasons for it.

I believe our eventual goal is to have it run under MinGW.  Then we
can compile Cygwin MPlayer under Cygwin and a native Windows binary
under MinGW.  This should make everybody happy.
