I added

if(! probe)

and run mplayer on an HDTV sample (that jewelry.ts that we two looked 
 at months ago).

 From the output I can see that none of the ds->id is ever set to -2, 
not even when adding -framedrop or -hardframedrop.

MAX_PACKS was set to 32768

If you want I can send it the log.
