i'll do that.. i only asked here because:

i'm using gentoo linux, and in their let's say package-tree libiconv was
categorized as may-break-things. so i first wanted to know whether you
would bother with it or not :-)) but it looks like you would. tomorrow
i'll send the bugreport to mplayer-users... 

hm... as the crash happens inside libiconv, i'll have to recompile
libiconv with debug symbols enabled, or not?
