Not sure right now. I've thought about something like

mencoder ... -of raw=v:videoout.raw,a:audioout.mp3

or something similar and just ignoring -o (perhaps it could print a
warning if it is not the default 'test.avi').

Yuck - I could have thought about it myself. I'll test with something
