It may not be ideal (why is there no lockfile or similar?!), but it
works.

Actually, it's closer to 10 msec than 20, at least on my system. Given
about 25% CPU load when playing a movie, this _is_ feasable. Nobody
forces AMD-K6-something owners to run xss...

This is yet another hack. The correct solution would be to fix xss and
stop this silly pingpong game, but I guess the xss author is unlikely to
change his opinion. If you don't like the patch, then don't apply it to
the official version. I'm not going to start a religious war - good to
know that mplayer is free software :)
