it can be either a muxer, encoder, demuxer or decoder related problem ;)

i think's a problem of mplayer, it can't play avi files runtimely
downloaded (or generated) becouse of the usage of required indexes
and/or depeding on stream_end (anyway, it's on the todo list)

nut (mpcf) will success this, becouse it's packet based and normally
it doesn't even require an index

dunno how are thinking others, but i'm on the side of these extras.
anyway, the format should and _is_ extensible.

it can.

mjpeg is fine, but for the best quality, some lossless encoding is
preferred (also theres lossless mjpeg) - not a case in grabbing from
some VHS to archive it ;)
