Who needs gtk1 compatibility? It's deprecated, not remotely as much
portable and it looks like crap on modern systems.
Writing a (somewhat complex) GUI for gtk1 and gtk2 is hardly possible
because many of the old widgets have been removed/replaced and the
object system is now handled by glib.

For those of you who are favouring the framebuffer for displaying videos
there's also a goodie: gtk2 has a directfb backend.
