As long as xine *is* faster than mplayer on a few systems there's no reason
to be to jealous. And it still is on ppc and was at least sparc and alpha.
The only reason mplayer gets decent performance on ix86 is the heavy use of
ix86 specific assembly code everywhere. Last but not least Michaels' lavc code 
works miracles as well!
