Hmm, Wolfgang Thiess provided a patch to make these instructions
compatible with non-i386 CPUs, here is the diff:

He said it works on PPC, which is also bigendian.  Maybe you can try
to contact him, wollet1 at gmx.net, otherwise hit the gdb manual and try
to provide a similar patch ;-)
