Nah, don't make assumptions about "every system". Although I optimised
libmpeg2 with asm code for my platform (ppc) since it was the only
working mpeg2 decoder when I started using mplayer it is still a fair
bit slower than ffmpeg on PowerPC. libmpeg2 is not very good in keeping
data aligned which prohibits some optimisations and in general incurs
a huge performance penalty on most superscalar platforms.
