OK, here's the deal on q and aq. Originally, there was just one
option, q. In VBR mode, it controlled the VBR quality (higher q =
higher bitrate), but in CBR mode, it controlled LAME's quality setting
(higher q = much slower to encode but generates better sounding
output). There was no way to control this latter quality setting when
in VBR mode, and overloading the q option for two unrelated functions
just made no sense, so after discussing it a bit on the list, I added
the aq option for the second quality setting. Theoretically aq is
supposed to stand for "algorithm quality".
