Probably because fewer people can paint than watch movies? mplayer is
a general purpose tool, GIMP not so much of it.

Plugins are only a small part of the code and almost not touched
anymore. The real work is the core which is still quite messy...

It's not slow if you're trying to imply that though the paint-core
is very old, hard to optimise but portable which is a MUST.

I'm not imposing anything on the mplayer devs. I merely point out
options to make the project better than it already is.
