Yeah, I tried it, I am stupid ;-)
Could someone please explain why mplayer needs to read from /dev/null
in this case? And why doesn't it work when redirecting to /dev/null
and playing in the background?

P.S.: In any case here is a less controversial patch without the
/dev/null stuff.
