you are right. the libmp3lame.* files in /usr/lib/ do also define
decwin. So it works when removing these files or  renaming to decwin2 in
the mp3lib dir.

Now I do wonder what is the best way to workaround such library
conflicts ?

Anyway I am still confused why it worked with old binutils without
warning and newer ones with warning and the latest -> error. Pretty
strange behaviour.
