and what if it will succeds? what should mplayer do with raw file
without font.desc?

-font option doesn't with my patch. it doesn't rely on file extension.
it tries to open fiven file as an oldstyle font description and if it
fails, tries to open it with freetype.

anyway, i can make a patch to try out all supported extensions, if
anyone needs or wants it.
