Definitely possible ! 

I haven't changed too much, it should be quite possible to "define out
problematic code ... 

guess what I achieved after 5 hours of work yesterday - I could already
play back MPEG1 and an MPEG2-stream over OpenGL (without sound) on IRIX !! 
*proud* X11 crashes, but I leave solving that over to someone oelse (I'm
not good at X11 code :-) )

As soon as you grant me CVS access, I can upload it there !
