Hmm. What about diz:

find /cdrom -name \*.avi -exec mplayer {} \;

this works without multi-file support by mplayer.
btw .dat .vob .asf etc should be supported...
and for VCD and DVD, we should make extra things, like
-vcd <trackno> for vcd, and -dvd /dev/dvd for DVD disks...
