It does exists in Solaris. (I use it all the time, no probs.)

In every way the alignment should depend on the CPU (K6/K7/Duron/P1/P2/P3/Cel).
In Solaris (Sparc only?) there is program to determine cache and cacheline 
sizes, is there something similar for Linux/BSD? Of course, it can be measure by 
brute-force, but this is more elegant...
