Ah!  That makes sense.  A good example of this is MPEG4 AVI with the
aspect ratio set in the video stream.  WMP won't display the correct
aspect, but MPlayer will.  If the fourcc is different, then ffdshow
could take exclusive responsibility for it and (presumably) even WMP
would play it correctly.
