I'm not sure, I modified my local headers some time ago to define off_t as 
long long to make seeking with dvds work. Maybe pre5 is compiled with the 
modified header or not.

Mingw does/did not work well with big files. Afair recently some initial 
support for bigger files was added. When I checked this changes could
only be found in the cvs version, therefore I did not bother to add support
for mplayer. Maybe it can now be found in some official release.
I'll check that. The cygwin port should not have this problem.
