Diego,
  Windows mplayer releases are ought to be used by many people,
including these who are not computer experts. It is much easier to
setup mplayer for them by unzipping the release, and making a
short-cut for the mplayer executables on their desktop, instructing
them to: "Drop your media file on the cuted white and blue mplayer
logo on your desktop, and it will play", and instructing them to send
the log file by email if they had problems, than teaching them how to
use windows shell. I think that an option like this can be useful,
especially if mplayer plains to become a wide-range player, used by
people who are not technically oriented.
