That's completely besides the point. I worry that embedded libraries
bring longterm maintenance burden and thus I replied when Reimar did
work on embedded libs again.

Yes, sometimes people disagree on the longterm value and usefulness of
certain endeavours. It has happened to me, it has happened to Reimar,
it can happen to anybody really.

This here may or may not be such a case. Reimar and I seem to disagree,
which is fine. I don't mind Reimar doing such work. I have done it
myself before. Yes, I updated many embedded libs, did you know that?
However, I have changed my mind, I would rather work on eliminating
them nowadays. But I would *never* tell Reimar what to spend his
time on, he is free to work on whatever he likes!

I never asked him to revert his work either. I just returned to a
discussion we had previously, multiple times over the years in general
and with libass in particular. The argument for keeping libass the
last time was lack of distro availability. This issue is gone, so now
is not a bad moment to talk about embedded libass again.

But most importantly, Reimar is not some poor little creature in need of
your or anybody's protection. He can handle himself very well all by
himself and he did as you can see in this thread.

So why did you feel the need and the authority to step into a discussion
where you lack context and your defensive involvement is not required?
And what sort of reaction were you expecting for your aggressive
interjection?

I noticed the change here, so I can discuss it here. All developers are
subscribed, so this is as good a forum as any. Nothing stops us from
taking decisions here, it has been done many times before. Also nothing
stops us from moving the discussion to dev-eng at some point, perhaps
after a preliminary exchange of arguments here.

If you feel so strongly about the venue of the discussion why didn't you
move or copy the thread or start a new one instead of flaming me?

> Who do *YOU* think you are?

Somebody that has worked very actively on this project for nearly ten
years and a person that has talked with Reimar many times, online and
offline. In short, nobody that needs to be taught the rules, much less
by somebody that has missed most of the developments of the last five
years or so, sorry to be blunt.

Who made you the expert on the rules of the project and gave you the
authority to enforce them against other developers? Even when you do
not know the context of what they are discussing? And haven't been
around to witness if the rules maybe changed during your hiatus?

And most of all what is it with flaming and then whining when you get
flames in return? If you cannot stand the heat, stay out of the
kitchen...

And now let's please stop this nonsense trollwar.
