'-fstype none' appears to fix the problem.

I wouldn't have thought so either, but at the time I was grasping at
straws.

I don't have that resolution in my xorg.conf at the moment, so testing
that would involve a restart anyway, and I'm not 100% positive that that
exact resolution is supported by my monitor (there are allegedly two
somewhat uncommon resolutions which are not). I'll plan to add it for my
next X restart regardless.
