I'll have to remember to try that when I next restart X, which probably
won't be soon unless I need to update drivers to try to address the
fullscreen problem. (I can, at least, confirm that Composite is
available in my currently-running session.)

The specific issue is that, when there is horizontal motion (and
possibly vertical as well, I just know that it doesn't happen on a still
image with small changes here and there), there is a visible horizontal
line moving up the screen, which appears to mark a point where the
pixels above are slightly to one side of the corresponding pixels below.
It's rather reminiscent of a poorly-adjusted "tracking" setting on a
VCR, only without the flicker.

Is that the problem you guessed I was having, for which the above
suggestion might be a fix?
