They do, but this does not let me 'zoom' out farther than the same place
where it starts, which still leaves the bottom cut off. The limits,
unsurprisingly, appear to be the same places as corresponding to
-panscan 0 and 1.

-panscan 1 appears to eliminate the "top of the image down from the top
of the screen" part of the effect, but greatly increases the amount cut
off at the bottom. -panscan 0 does not seem at a glance to have any
visible effect.
