Definitely !
Considering that only 3 actors remain in video card world 
(ATI/nVidia/Intel) and that 2 of them do not have Vidix drivers ...
Also the ATI Vidix driver is "almost" fine up to Radeon 9xxx series
but there still are some display issues if resolution is too big.
And I'm really not sure that VIDIX is faster than XV.

So yes, if you have X, don't even ask yourself, don't use VIDIX.
But a few systems remain without X.
