Well, alloca is know to not be available in some cases. Not that I know
if someone ever tried to use MPlayer on such a thing or if they even
have ALSA...

Well, it would at least use portable and standards-compliant features.
Though maybe ALSA working on anything beyond Linux and a few select
hardware platforms is a lost hope anyway...
