I was quite convinced, that _GNU_SOURCE would not be defined when
compiling MPlayer, I know we removed an explicit -D_GNU_SOURCE because
it indeed help avoid gnuisms. Would -std=gnu99 really define that? Does
not specifying -std not define it? Anyone knows details?
Going by a quick test, -std=gnu99 does not define _GNU_SOURCE (gcc
4.3.1).
