I think it's realistic to hope for autotools to be replaced or
fundamentally improved. People do recognize their problems. However it's
unlikely that such a general-purpose replacement would evolve from the
MPlayer project, and using arguments like "this will matter when we're
otherwise ready to replace autotools" when talking about current
decisions is ridiculous.
