No, it choose gawk if available, nawk otherwise.

Yes. It's sick how much outdated stuff there is in 
the standard path[1]. But don't even try to start
thinking like these Linux=Unix people and assume
that everyone uses a GNU userland.

[1] Yes, there is a modern version of nearly all standard
tools available on solaris in /usr/xpg4/bin/, but hardly
anyone seems to know it.
